Biblical Manhood

Samson could be considered a man’s man of Biblical characters. He had the strength, popularity and women. He was a judge of premonarch Israel who slaughtered a lion, baffled men with a riddle and chased and obtained the woman that others told him not to go after (Judges 14-15). He slaughter a lion with his bare hands, a thousand men with a jawbone and tore down a building by pushing some pillars to the ground (Judges 16). He may not be the first Biblical character that we talk about when speaking of biblical manhood, but he cannot be ignored. He may be considered a great example by not being a great example. He was violent, lustful and a loner. Although by some worldly standards, it seems like he had everything that a man desires but his character and motive are troublesome. What does it mean to obtain biblical manhood:

(1) A man of Biblical natures develops the physical. He is an adventurer. He is strong. He is healthy because he eats for optimum performance and he works out to control the inner beast (3 John 1:2). He is a man that does not allow the middle aged suburbian life to consume his internal drive. He knows he is a warrior for his Lord and a leader for his family. He is a champion and fighter for his wife. When was the last time that you did a sit up, ran a race or cared about the physical (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)? Do you workout so that you are fit enough to keep up with your kids or can fight off enemies that may attack your wife? Why have you allowed this life to steal that toughness from your life? #WorkOut #EatHealthy

(2) A man of Biblical nature develops the spiritual conscience. He is a spiritual man that cares about the journey of his life and path of his feet. His ends does not justify his means. he desires to be above reproach as he chases after his creator (2 Corinthians 6:3). He treats others as he desires to be treated (Matthew 22). He searches scripture to find out what God thinks so that he can adapt his thinking and ways into the ways of God (Isaiah 55). #PrayToGod #StudyGod

(3) A man of Biblical nature develops the mind (2 Timothy 2: 15). If you can fight off bears, be at peace with yourself but have the lack of mind to understand then you cannot live life to the fullest (Ecclesiastes 7: 12). The smartest people that I know read books. I hate reading, but I also hate working out and eating healthy. Informal classes to learn your job better, disciplining yourself to read through a book, reading the Bible, memorizing Scripture are all ways to sharpen your mind and be engaging in the days to come. Samson did not engage others as well as other Biblical characters. His main motive was self. Sharpening your mind will help you see God clearly and engage life more thoroughly (Proverbs 1:7). #ReadTheBible #ReadABook #StudyForYourJob
