Will water continue to flow through flatbranch creek

On November 15, 2000, longtime Robertson County resident Dixie Couts documented a concern about Flat Branch Creek (video posted below). The concern was about a proposal to dynamite the creek to lay a sewer line.

Today the concern is back.

Flat Branch Creek is in danger of being dynamited, trenched or bored under to lay a sewer line for a proposed development Lookout Crossing. Flat Branch Creek is a blue line creek that flows between Concord Road and Blackpatch Drive in Springfield, TN.

Problems with trenching:

Elisabeth Beauchamp stated, “Trenching under streams, ponds, or wetlands is typically not suitable because it disrupts delicate ecosystems. Directional boring is required instead. Trenching risks groundwater pollution if fuel, oil, or other chemicals spill into trenches, which can lead to environmental fines … Costs get high for removal of asphalt, concrete, or large boulders, not suited for areas with heavy rains, creates risk of pollution near water ecosystems, can be hazardous if not maintained properly”(https://todayshomeowner.com/electrical/guides/trenching-vs-boring-to-install-underground-utilities/).

“Trenching is a process where a trench is dug into the ground so the wires, pipes etc. can be installed and then buried.Trenching is very invasive, and can disrupt landscaping, roads, sidewalks, driveways and more” (Quality Directional Boring, Directional boring vs. Trenching: Three things you need to know, https://qualitydirectionalboring.com/directional-boring-vs-trenching-three-things-you-need-to-know/#:~:text=Trenching%20is%20a%20process%20where,be%20inserted%20into%20the%20ground).
